*"mabiki" or "thinning" refers to the thinning out of plants for agricultural purposes, in this case in order to make them grow better.
*"akasen" is the Japanese word for a red light district, but I thought putting it in English sounded too wordy. Also he uses a word for light which is specifically referring to an artificial light. So that's why I included the word lamp in the translation.
*The interesting part of these two last line is that they do countinue to count up to 8 and 9. The "ya" in "yasashiku" is for 8 and the "ku" in "kurushiku" represents 9. The same thing happens in the ending verse as well.
*I assume he is referring to the skin turning red rash from the heat of the fever.
