[Wink Up 2005.08] NEWS Question10

01. What does "Kagoshima" make you think of?
Yamashita: Potato shochu
Uchi: The dialect is mysterious
Koyama: Pork
Nishikido: Sakura-jima
Katou: Saigou Takamori
Kusano: Potatoes
Masuda: Kyuushuu Bunka Gakuen. (Oh, that's in Nagasaki!)
Tegoshi: Hot
(Obviously, Kagoshima is known for potatos [and the alcohol made from it] and pork. Sakura-jima was a town in Kagoshima prefecture, but apparently in 2004 it was merged with Kagoshima city so technically it doesn't exist anymore. Saigou Takamori was a samurai from the 1800's, who led the Satsuma Rebellion, which was what the movie The Last Samurai was loosely based on.)

02. If you could, what age would you return to?
Yamashita: I wouldn't want to return, cause I don't have regrets in life
Uchi: I don't want to go back, I want to hurry up and turn 20!
Koyama: I'd return to being a high schooler, cause I wanna wear the uniform!
Nishikido: I'd go back to 10th grade, and go to and from school with my girlfriend!
Katou: I'd return to being 14, and re-do "Kinpachi-sensei" again
Kusano: I'd turn 15 and experience puberty!
Masuda: 15. Cause I want to be a 9th grader
Tegoshi: I'd go back to 6th grade after exams, and play

03. Do you watch the shows you appear in?
Yamashita: I don't
Uchi: There are times I do, and times I don't
Koyama: I try to
Nishikido: If it's being aired, I'll watch it
Katou: I try to
Kusano: Yes
Masuda: Basically
Tegoshi: I do

04. What did you buy most recently?
Yamashita: Polaroid film
Uchi: I bought a t-shirt
Koyama: T-shirt
Nishikido: Lemon ice
Katou: Tissues
Kusano: CD
Masuda: Green tea juice at a coffee shop
Tegoshi: Caramel frappacino

05. What does "Katou Shigeaki" make you think of?
Yamashita: A sharp smile
Uchi: Old man
Koyama: Love
Nishikido: No interest
Katou: A nice young man?
Kusano: Katou?
Masuda: Intellectual
Tegoshi: A songwriting genius
(Kusano wrote "katou" in hiragana, and it has many meanings as a word, but he might have meant it as his name and not a word.)

06. What's your favorite egg dish?
Yamashita: Boiled egg
Uchi: Dashimaki egg
Koyama: Scrambled egg
Nishikido: Hot spring egg
Katou: Omrice
Kusano: Oyakodon
Masuda: Boiled egg
Tegoshi: Omrice
(Dashimaki egg is scrambled egg that's cooked thinly and rolled up. Hot spring eggs are cooked for a long time at a low temperature [such as in a hot spring], and come out half cooked. Omrice is an omelette with rice in it. Oyakodon is made by cooking chicken in flavorful liquid, then pouring beaten eggs over it at the last minute and then putting the whole thing over rice.)

07. What was your dream when you were a kid?
Yamashita: I don't remember
Uchi: Astronaut (I still want to be one!), florist
Koyama: Pilot
Nishikido: Novelist
Katou: Strange
Kusano: World's best grappler (judo)
Masuda: Sports player
Tegoshi: Himura Battousai from Rurouni Kenshin

08. Which is the most important: clothing, food, housing?
Yamashita: Food
Uchi: Housing
Koyama: Clothes
Nishikido: Food
Katou: Food
Kusano: All of them
Masuda: Housing
Tegoshi: Housing

09. Are your hands cold or hot?
Yamashita: Depends on the day
Uchi: Hot
Koyama: Cold
Nishikido: I don't know
Katou: Hot
Masuda: Hot
Tegoshi: Hot

10. Length of arm from elbow to fingertips.
Yamashita: 45.6cm
back

HEY GUYS
I don't have anything cool to post, I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm back from my freaking long trip that I didn't post about, did I? Anyway, I'm back, so hopefully I'll at least post a couple things before I leave again. The next trip is shorter (2 weeks as opposed to 7), and it's to Japan, so maybe I'll find some neat stuff to "share" (at the very least talk about and take pictures of) while I'm there.

[Popolo 2005.07] Talents Favorites - Donburi

In this monthly corner, Popolo asks a bunch of people what their favorite XX is, or some other single-answer question. (In fact I can't think of any questions that weren't "favorite XX" but I want to keep my options open so it doesn't seem like I'm lying!).
For this issue, the question was what is their favorite donburi. Donburi is a bowl of rice with something on top.
I included all the names of people, whether they're Johnny's or not, but I only translated comments that I thought were interesting. (Which wasn't very many^^; )

This month's event: 10-second stopwatch
Each participant uses a stopwatch, and without looking at it, stops it when they think 10 seconds has passed. Whoever's closest to 10 seconds wins! (They each tried twice, and the closest number was the one that got put on the ranking.)
Note: I'm looking up names that I'm completely unsure of, but if I think I know it I'm not checking. So there may be romanization errors in names. But they should be close..^^;

Yamashita: First of all, "west"
Koyama: Love
Nishikido: Oranges
Katou: Oranges
Kusano: Aichi
Tegoshi: Princess
(Ehime is a prefecture on the island of Shikoku, which is west of Tokyo and famous for oranges. The name is written 愛媛, with the first character meaning "love," hence Koyama's answer. I guess Kusano said "Aichi" because its name also begins with the "love" character. "Princess" in Japanese is "hime," which I suppose explains Tegoshi's. Massu, of course, just made a mistake, haha.)

Koyama: Western
Nishikido: It'd be at a church, so western
Katou: Western
Kusano: For Japanese men, Japanese-style of course!
Masuda: Western
Tegoshi: Western

07. What kind of swimsuit would you want a girl to wear?
Yamashita: Simple is best (note: in English)
Masuda: Ten-don
Tegoshi: Tekka-don
(Tekka-don and maguro-don's main ingredients are raw tuna. Gyuu-don is beef, katsu-don is fried pork, and ten-don is tempura, normally shrimp and vegetables.)

09. When watching a movie, do you prefer it to be dubbed or subtitled?
Yamashita: Subtitled
Koyama: Subtitled
Nishikido: Definitely subtitled
Katou: Subtitled
Kusano: Subtitled
Masuda: Dubbed
Tegoshi: Subtitled

10. What is the circumference of your neck?
