[Wink Up 2005.08] NEWS Question10

01. What does "Kagoshima" make you think of?
Yamashita: Potato shochu
Uchi: The dialect is mysterious
Koyama: Pork
Nishikido: Sakura-jima
Katou: Saigou Takamori
Kusano: Potatoes
Masuda: Kyuushuu Bunka Gakuen. (Oh, that's in Nagasaki!)
Tegoshi: Hot
(Obviously, Kagoshima is known for potatos [and the alcohol made from it] and pork. Sakura-jima was a town in Kagoshima prefecture, but apparently in 2004 it was merged with Kagoshima city so technically it doesn't exist anymore. Saigou Takamori was a samurai from the 1800's, who led the Satsuma Rebellion, which was what the movie The Last Samurai was loosely based on.)

Nishikido: No interest
Katou: A nice young man?
Kusano: Katou?
Masuda: Intellectual
Tegoshi: A songwriting genius
(Kusano wrote "katou" in hiragana, and it has many meanings as a word, but he might have meant it as his name and not a word.)

Yamashita: Boiled egg
Uchi: Dashimaki egg
Koyama: Scrambled egg
Nishikido: Hot spring egg
Katou: Omrice
Kusano: Oyakodon

Tegoshi: Omrice
(Dashimaki egg is scrambled egg that's cooked thinly and rolled up. Hot spring eggs are cooked for a long time at a low temperature [such as in a hot spring], and come out half cooked. Omrice is an omelette with rice in it. Oyakodon is made by cooking chicken in flavorful liquid, then pouring beaten eggs over it at the last minute and then putting the whole thing over rice.)

[Wink Up 2005.07] Johnny's Jr. Championship

This month's event: 10-second stopwatch
Each participant uses a stopwatch, and without looking at it, stops it when they think 10 seconds has passed. Whoever's closest to 10 seconds wins! (They each tried twice, and the closest number was the one that got put on the ranking.)
Note: I'm looking up names that I'm completely unsure of, but if I think I know it I'm not checking. So there may be romanization errors in names. But they should be close..^^;

[Wink Up 2005.07] NEWS Question10

01. What does "Ehime" make you think of?
Yamashita: First of all, "west"
Koyama: Love
Nishikido: Oranges
Katou: Oranges
Kusano: Aichi
Masuda: Apples (Oh, that's Aomori!)
Tegoshi: Princess
(Ehime is a prefecture on the island of Shikoku, which is west of Tokyo and famous for oranges. The name is written 愛媛, with the first character meaning "love," hence Koyama's answer. I guess Kusano said "Aichi" because its name also begins with the "love" character. "Princess" in Japanese is "hime," which I suppose explains Tegoshi's. Massu, of course, just made a mistake, haha.)
