Let me explain the episode title *g* They played flag football before, so this is part two.. but it's the first episode of THIS particular series of episodes on it, so it's part one.
Random thought: how do they choose the numbers on their jerseys? For this, Hina is 18, Yoko is 77, Subaru is 0.1, Yassu is 3, Tacchon is 168, Uchi is 1, Ryo is 20, and Maru is 0.
Apparently this was Ryo and Subaru's first times playing flag football. After they mentioned that, Ryo said he was aiming to be the "EM-BOO-PEE" (he was trying to say "em-vee-pee").
Lesson 0 - Know oneself (scouting)
They reviewed videos of the previous flag football episode(s), and the coach guy pointed out some things they needed to improve at. Particularly the part where Uchi was THREE FEET away from the end zone and threw the ball AWAY, towards the other team LSKFJDSLFKJ
Lesson 1 - Throwing long passes (re-choosing a quarterback)
After practicing a bit, they narrowed down the group of possible quarterbacks to Yoko and Uchi. Then Yassu and Hina joined the group. Then Tacchon and Maru.. so um, basically, all of them except for Ryo and Subaru. The test was to throw the football through a small hoop from 40 yards away. The camera crew was (very smartly) standing right behind the hoop, so when one of the experienced players demonstrated, they got hit with the ball. Good one, guys ![]()
First up, Yassu. I don't know why but they all got to throw at 30 yards. He hit the hoop, but it didn't go through. Hina didn't use enough force, so it stopped before it got to the hoop. Tacchon did the opposite and threw his too far. Uchi hit the guy holding the hoop in the armpit LOL. Yoko was the only one whose went through the hoop! GO YOKO! Yoko got to be quarterback, but Tacchon was like..backup or something.
Lesson 2 - Receiving long passes (choosing the wide receiver)
Ryo tried first. He couldn't catch it, so he got mad and started yelling. What a sore loser! Maru missed it too. But Subaru caught it! So did Uchi and Yassu!
Then they did another pass receive called a curl? or curve? They were all able to catch it, but really only Yassu seemed like he did it well.
To decide the wide receiver, Hina, Uchi, Tacchon, Ryo, and Yassu were to catch a long pass from one of the experienced players. Only Hina and Uchi were able to catch the ball, they both became WR. Ryo and Tacchon were like..backup WRs? Yassu was running back, and Maru was center. Subaru didn't get a position because he left early.
Lesson 3 - Stop Hasegawa Shouei (solidify the defense)
(Hasegawa is one of the experienced players, by the way. I didn't pay enough attention during his and the other guy's intros to know if they're pro football players or what^^
The first two tries, they couldn't stop him. The third time Maru did, but it was more by luck than anything, because they weren't doing it right. The fourth time they did it right, AND stopped him!
Lesson 4 - Make a Kanjani Special! (offense formation)
The coach guy taught them a special trick play for them to use only once during the game. I don't really get what made it so special, but I don't know much about football..
♪ Heavenly Psycho
Lesson 6 - Final Tuning
Yassu and Subaru practiced their "special moves" that they were supposed to learn.
Finally, the game started--!! Kanjani8 (4 at a time) versus two female Olympic beach volleyball players that they introduced previously. You'd think that they'd raelize it's unfair to play 4 against 2, especially considering the women had never played this form of volleyball before, but whatever..
First Set: Olympic women
Second Set: Kanjani8
Third Set: Olympic women
Most of the episode was gameplay, and not really interesting to talk about^^; During the third set, though, Hina and Yassu ran into each other and fell down!
♪ Heavenly Psycho
Lesson 1 - Toss
Sugimoto Announcer asked the guys if they remembered how to serve the ball, and Subaru explained it as "SPEEEEHN!!" They made fun of him, but the teacher agreed with him *g*
Lesson 2 - Receive
While trying to receive the balls the teacher was hitting their way, Uchi..just basically couldn't do it. One time it bounced right under his legs! Tacchon got smacked RIGHT in the face during his turn! The same thing happened to Ryo, too *g* Uchi and Tacchon were supposed to get special lessons, but Yoko bragged about how he was able to do it, so he had to take the special lessons too. During Yoko's turn, he was doing well..until one of the balls hit HIS..balls LOL
Lesson 3 - Attack
Most of them were able to improve quite well after not being able to get the right timing at first. Maru still looked a bit strange though..
Lesson 4 - Block
Nothing interesting happened in this part^^;
Lesson 5 - Formation
On the team, Hina is the only one playing left position, while there are two people on right. While talking to the teacher about that, Hina seemed to be thinking that that might cause some problems but the teacher explained that the left is his "ace" Hina got a big grin on his face. It was cute♥
♪ Osaka Rainy Blues
During the intro, while all the guys were clapping and YAY-ing, Ryo smacked Yassu on the head repeatedly. (He's just showing his love!)
The magician this time was Kazu Takayama (his name's written in katakana, and the order is different -- is he pretending to be a foreigner? or IS he one?) By the way, I'm not going to describe the tricks much, because you don't need to understand the language to understand the tricks. Also it's boring to write/read about.
Cup & Ball
After the first trick, Subaru was screaming "EH?! HOW!?" but Yoko looked kind of disappointed. I kept spotting extra balls in the magician's hand, so I figure Yoko could too and didn't want to pretend that it was amazing. Even when he replaced the balls with lemons at the end, Yoko didn't make a surprised face. He's such a grumpy pants!
Lesson 1 - Let's learn magic using paper money!
First, fold a bill lengthwise and then set it up so it stands up on a table. Tap your cheeks, then make a fist at the bill, and it'll fall down! Even if you cover your mouth and nose, or put a bottle in front of the bill, it'll still fall down. The reason? The force of the air from your hand moving towards the bill knocks it down. Since bottles are round, the air just flows around it and still hits the bottle. The guys stood around doing it, but kept patting their cheeks even though it really wasn't necessary.. When Subaru did it, he pulled his arm back in an attempt to be cool? *g*
Card Magic
Kazu gave Maru a little metal container to take care of until the end of the tricks. The first trick was to find the four versions of one number without looking at the cards. The first three were kings, but the last was an ace -- but when Subaru turned over the first three cards they were aces too! (I love Subaru's reactions to stuff like this LOL)
He gave Maru the kings and did stuff with the aces. Subaru took the 7 of hearts and wrote his name on it. Then Kazu asked him to write something that only he would know -- such as the PIN number for his ATM card! *g* Kazu took the red kings from Maru and put Subaru's card between them and did stuff with the cards. He took the black kings from Maru, and after playing with them for a second, Subaru's card was in between them! Then it was back between the red kings! Subaru looked kind of scared while he was clapping.
Afterwards he got Ryo, Maru, and Hina to sign the card as well and then he put it between the red cards, and put those three between the black cards. He put the five hards in Maru's hands and had him hold them. Kazu mentioned the metal container from the beginning of the segment, and Hina and Subaru looked at each other and screamed: "I FORGOT!!!" So Hina took it out, and Kazu opened it. There was a folded-up card inside, which Subaru unfolded and of course it was the signed card! While they were all freaking out about it, Uchi shook Yassu violently.
♪ Osaka Rainy Blues
The last two episodes were full of cooking and fishing, but the last one is basically just mentality tests. Unfortunately, I can't provide screen caps of the pictures, but I don't really think they're all that important anyway, so hopefully you can have fun with the tests as well!
Lesson 6 - Making Dessert
They made caramel popcorn, with fresh-popped popcorn on the stove. The caramel sauce was just marshmallows and butter that they melted until it turned brown.
On to the tests -- !! To help, Hasegawa Yuuko from the Idea Counseling Center came.
Question: Lately, you've had a lot of busy days. At that time, which place would you choose to camp at?
A. A spacious meadow
B. A quiet lakeside
C. In the mountains with no one around
D. The newest campground
A- Uchi, Ohkura
B- Yasuda, Shibutani, Maruyama, Yokoyama
D- Nishikido
Answer: The answer tells what is most important to you in life.
A: "Freedom." You act with your feelings, and think that natural is the best. But at the same time, when there's too much pressure, you try to run from reality.
B: "Sense." You're strongly oriented towards being an artist, and you're always 'my pace.' But you can't show your weaknesses to others, and tend to be depressed alone. (Subaru tried hiding his face with the little flag things that they used to show their answer. Cute~ ^^)
C: "Effort." You put forth utmost effort even at the smallest thing. But when things keep failing and plans go bad, you tend to blame other people.
D: "Popularity." You want to bathe in the attention of others. You're always aiming to be a popular guy person. (The other guys FREAKED out laughing at Ryo for his answer *g*)
Question: Everyone's supposed to go out and collect firewood for the camp fire. You collected three times as much as anyone else. Everyone praises you. How do you respond?
A. "Well, it just happened," you say modestly.
B. "Of course, because it's ME!" you say boastfully.

D. "Really? I guess~" you say evasively.
A- Shibutani, Ohkura, Yasuda, Murakami
B- Yokoyama
C- Maruyama
D- Nishikido, Uchi
Answer: It tells how you deal with your partner in love.
Ryo bit his lip nervously, while Uchi made scared sounds *g*
A: You "serve" your partner, and give in to them. If you were dumped, the reason is likely to be because you're indecisive.
B: You "rule" your partner, and pull them along. But it shows that you don't have confidence. You don't have the courage to cheat on your partner.
C: You have an "adult" love, where you and your partner respect each other. But if you only work by reason, they may wonder if you really like them.
D: You're a "baby" who depends on others. When you're alone with your partner, you're likely to use baby talk.
Ryo looked plain embarrassed, while Uchi looked like "uwah~ it's so right!"
Next they ate some more dessert. This time only the chef guy made it, not the guys. It was a grilled banana with fruit salad. After that there was a question, but the guys didn't answer it so I'm not translating!
Question: Everyone's having fun at the camp, but the girl you're interested in is talking to a guy from another group. It turns out that the guy is her ex-boyfriend, and is quite attractive. She looks like she's having fun. What do you do?
A. Go over to her and call her back.
B. Wait until she comes back.
C. Ask a friend, and have him call her back.
D. Yell "uwah!" and pretend there's trouble, and make her come back.
A- Murakami, Yasuda
B- Maruyama, Shibutani, Ohkura, Yokoyama, Uchi, Nishikido
While they were discussing their answers, Ryo figured out that in the situation the girl wasn't his girlfriend, so he changed his answer from A to B.
Answer: It tells how you react when there's trouble at work.
A: "Forceful boss-type." Rather than hide from the trouble, you face it head-on and try to solve it. You're a leader who pulls along others, but you're also stubborn, and you can't accept your own mistakes. You're not very accomodating to other people's mistakes.
B: "Optimist who lets things happen type." Rather than do something about trouble, you just let it happen and think that it'll work itself out. Others may see you as composed, but really you're just a coward. You underestimate trouble.
C: "Wanting to be saved by others type." You can never grow, because you always think that someone will solve the trouble. You have a lot of friends and older people around you who like to take care of others.
D: "Intelligent criminal who's good at making a living type." You try to resolve trouble by using intelligence and schemes. But because you're afraid of being hurt, you may not take big chances.
While discussing the results, Subaru said that if they didn't have Hina or Yassu, the group would be terrible (because no one would be able to lead them).
♪ Osaka Rainy Blues
Lesson 1
First up, Maru and Yoko paired up to make a...log-shaped cake thing. Really, they were just decorating a premade cake
Maru beat whipped cream, then Yoko painted the cake with sugar syrup. The teacher explained that you don't want to paint it like you're painting a Gundam model LOL. Next Maru piped frosting onto the side, but it looked SO bad! Even the teacher laughed! Then they decorated it. They made the cutest little Santas out of strawberries! (Cut tip off and pipe whipped cream onto the big part, then put the tip back on as a hat. Use more whipped cream for the arms and beard and such, and chocolate for the eyes).
The teacher gave a neat tip for making those spiffy decorations on fancy cakes that you (or rather "I") see on Food Network all the time.. They're just made by melting sugar, shaping it in some way, and then letting it harden. But what the teacher did was melted some hard candy in the microwave, and spread it on some parchment paper in a leaf shape. It looked really easy! Except of course, Yoko couldn't do it. But they finished.
While sitting around tasting, Yassu starting crying! Hina went over him to ask what was wrong, assuming that he was crying cause it was just SO delicious. Yassu: "Subaru-kun took my strawberry! T_T"
Lesson 2
Next up, Yassu and Subaru were to make something that sounded like "rare cheese cake" but I wonder if they meant "layer"? Or "rare" as in uncooked? I don't KNOW! First Yassu crushed graham crackers with a rolling pin. Subaru: "nice tataki!" (nice beating). While Yassu was stirring melted butter into the crushed graham crackers, Subaru was trying to tell him to scrape the side of the bowl but he couldn't explain it well so he just took Yassu's arm and made him do it.
They melted store bought gelatin cups for the next layer. After it chilled, they decorated it with oranges and figs and other fruit. At the tasting, Yoko didn't seem too impressed.
(I skipped the next part because..who really cares about what random girls want to do on Christmas?)
Lesson 3
Lastly, Okura and Hina made a mille crepe, which is just a bunch of crepes piled on top of each other with a custard cream in between each layer. To make the crepe batter, first they had to mix some liquid into some flour but when Okura started stirring he did it too strong and the flour went everywhere. Even the cameraman said "AH!!" That cracked up Hina *g* Hina made the first crepe but he almost forgot to cook the other side.
After making the cake, they cut slices and Okura and Hina got to decorate their own. Yoko really liked it! Hina acted really happy about it.

At the end of the last episode, the fishing team (Yoko, Subaru, and Maru) had just caught a second fish, and it seems to be a CHINU!! (black sea bream). But after everyone ran over, Yoko revealed that he was lying >P
Lesson 4 - Churrasco (Brazilian Skewered + Grilled Meat)
Umeda-sensei marinated the meat in red wine, vegetable oil, and some vegetables. Tacchon was in charge of skewering the meat, but Sensei had to help, haha. They put a couple bricks on the grill, and rested the skewers on top, kind of like a spit. Next they made a sauce out of random vegetables and..some liquid (they didn't put the ingredients on the screen!).
Back with the fishermen, Yoko seems to have really caught something!! It's a CHINU!! Subaru picked it up with a net, then they all screamed happily. They measured it, and it was 48cm, which was the biggest chinu caught that day in that area, so Yoko made it into the newspaper!
Lesson 5 - Easy Smoking with Convenience Store Ingredients
The reason for cooking this stuff was because they weren't confident that the fishing team had caught enough fish for everyone, so they made extra food using ingredients one could easily get at a convenience store. Using a cardboard box and skewers, they built a smoking box. They used s-hooks to attach the food to a grill tray, then put it in the box. They hung fish sausage and kamaboko, put shuumai on one tray, and then put cheese, boiled eggs, and mixed nuts on the top tray. They went back to eating the churrasco.
At this time, the fishing team came back. Subaru: "We've returned, dumbasses!!" Hina explained what they were eating, and said it was really good. Yassu ate some: "It's good!♥" Subaru's reply? He smacked Yassu in the side of the face LOL. They showed off the fish they caught. No one seemed too excited about the sea bass. But when Subaru showed them the chinu-chan, they were all really impressed! Yoko made a face like, "why weren't they excited about my sea bass?" But..he caught both of them!! The sea bass was stuffed with herbs and grilled, half of the chinu was grilled slightly and chilled into sashimi, and the other half was cooked in a salt-crust!
Eating time!! All of a sudden, Uchi and Ryo appear. They just came for the food, and none of the work
They all tasted stuff, and Ryo tried to talk after putting like a whole boiled egg into his mouth LOL.
Song: Heavenly Psycho (red shirts with white jackets; except Yoko who's got a flashy dark red shirt)
At the opening, a few members looked cold, but Subaru was jumping up and down excitedly (as usual). They were on location at Lodge Maishima, in Osaka-shi Kita-ku (http://www.maishima.co.jp ; They provided the information! I wasn't a crazy stalker who looked it up all on her own!). They got the principal of a school (I guess a cooking school? lol) to teach them how to cook -- Umeda Yoshinori.
Lesson 1 - Easy Hot Dog
The recipe was supposed to be easier than regular hot dogs, but unless Japanese people go way overboard with their hot dogs when camping, it seemed more difficult to me.. There was adding spices to cabbage, then wrapping the hot dogs in things.. First, aluminum foil. Subaru and Yoko were yelling angrily at Hina for being too slow at giving them pieces of foil. Afterwards, Subaru: "..Really, it doesn't matter (laughs)." Then, they sprayed newspaper with water, and wrapped the hot dog in a few sheets, and stuffed the package into a milk carton. Subaru kept warning Umeda-sensei that the stuff would burn, like he didn't realize it *g*
After the paper had burned away, they opened the foil, and they were perfectly cooked! (Except for Yoko's and Yassu's, because they did it wrong).
After eating, they got split into two teams. Hina, Yasuda, and Tacchon would be cooking, while Yoko, Subaru, and Maru would go fishing. (By the way, Uchi and Ryo weren't present). The temperature was 2.8C (about 37F), and it was windy! They talked to an old fishing guy, who said that they wouldn't be able to catch anything because of the wind. Their goal was to catch a chinu (black sea bream).
Lesson 2 - Outdoor-style Katsuo Tataki
They started out by grilling the bonito steaks (loins? they were huge!) over a huge raging fire. Yasuda and Tacchon held grills over the ... grill ... with the fish on top. Tacchon is so scared of heat^^; After grilling the outside for a bit, they chilled the fish in ice, and sliced it. Next, they made a Korean-style spicy sauce to put over it. After it was done, they got to taste it.
Back with the fishing team, they haven't caught anything..
Lesson 3 - Sweets: Roasted Sweet Potato
They put some potatoes into a cast iron pot, covered it with ashes, and put it in the grill.
Suddenly, we go back to the fishing team! In the middle of them complaining, Yoko..he's caught something?! He takes forever to reel it in, but eventually they see it near the surface. Subaru and Maru were screaming and jumping around like freaks. Yoko caught a sea bass! Since they caught something, they wanted to go back, so they called Hina and the cooking team. Subaru asked if they could come back, but Hina said that they needed to catch more fish.
The sweet potatoes are done cooking! Tacchon tasted the first one, and it was so hot he was wiggling around (as if that makes a difference lol), which they made fun of him for. Next, Hina: he rocked back and forth in reaction. Then, Umeda-sensei, who made a pained face and almost spit it out cause it was so hot!
Back to the fishing! Yoko's caught another fish!! It's a CHINU!!
Unfortunately, the episode ends there! The continuation is in the next week's episode! Wait for it!♥
