Honjani 2005.04.05 - Spring Barbecue①

At the opening, a few members looked cold, but Subaru was jumping up and down excitedly (as usual). They were on location at Lodge Maishima, in Osaka-shi Kita-ku (http://www.maishima.co.jp ; They provided the information! I wasn't a crazy stalker who looked it up all on her own!). They got the principal of a school (I guess a cooking school? lol) to teach them how to cook -- Umeda Yoshinori.

Lesson 1 - Easy Hot Dog
The recipe was supposed to be easier than regular hot dogs, but unless Japanese people go way overboard with their hot dogs when camping, it seemed more difficult to me.. There was adding spices to cabbage, then wrapping the hot dogs in things.. First, aluminum foil. Subaru and Yoko were yelling angrily at Hina for being too slow at giving them pieces of foil. Afterwards, Subaru: "..Really, it doesn't matter (laughs)." Then, they sprayed newspaper with water, and wrapped the hot dog in a few sheets, and stuffed the package into a milk carton. Subaru kept warning Umeda-sensei that the stuff would burn, like he didn't realize it *g*
After the paper had burned away, they opened the foil, and they were perfectly cooked! (Except for Yoko's and Yassu's, because they did it wrong).

After eating, they got split into two teams. Hina, Yasuda, and Tacchon would be cooking, while Yoko, Subaru, and Maru would go fishing. (By the way, Uchi and Ryo weren't present). The temperature was 2.8C (about 37F), and it was windy! They talked to an old fishing guy, who said that they wouldn't be able to catch anything because of the wind. Their goal was to catch a chinu (black sea bream).

Lesson 2 - Outdoor-style Katsuo Tataki
They started out by grilling the bonito steaks (loins? they were huge!) over a huge raging fire. Yasuda and Tacchon held grills over the ... grill ... with the fish on top. Tacchon is so scared of heat^^; After grilling the outside for a bit, they chilled the fish in ice, and sliced it. Next, they made a Korean-style spicy sauce to put over it. After it was done, they got to taste it.

Back with the fishing team, they haven't caught anything..

Lesson 3 - Sweets: Roasted Sweet Potato
They put some potatoes into a cast iron pot, covered it with ashes, and put it in the grill.

Suddenly, we go back to the fishing team! In the middle of them complaining, Yoko..he's caught something?! He takes forever to reel it in, but eventually they see it near the surface. Subaru and Maru were screaming and jumping around like freaks. Yoko caught a sea bass! Since they caught something, they wanted to go back, so they called Hina and the cooking team. Subaru asked if they could come back, but Hina said that they needed to catch more fish.

The sweet potatoes are done cooking! Tacchon tasted the first one, and it was so hot he was wiggling around (as if that makes a difference lol), which they made fun of him for. Next, Hina: he rocked back and forth in reaction. Then, Umeda-sensei, who made a pained face and almost spit it out cause it was so hot!

Back to the fishing! Yoko's caught another fish!! It's a CHINU!!

Unfortunately, the episode ends there! The continuation is in the next week's episode! Wait for it!♥
